omg, long thought-provoking [i only wish!] post!

Anyone's been missing my more serious blog posts? because I have! :)

what better topics to talk about other than entrapment and homophobia?

first off, I was randomly googling singapore news around the world to see what people think of Singapore! :P [nothing very good imo :P] and found this article. Apparently Singapore/Singaporeans are so homophobic that allowing BBM to show in its entirety is newsworthy. Also, when you read the reasons why the show was allowed and Formula 17 was banned just makes me go ARGH!

At some point in my life, I was anti-gays. It's really the way people are brought up in this country that totally resembles being brought up in a backwards US county or whatevers. But instead of being bible-thumping, we're just told things are wrong because they're wrong. But why? we're taught to blindly accept what we're told. It is essential for a thinking person to question the assumptions, to make our own judgement calls... unless of course you're an idiot. Then you should sign your power of attourney to me. heh heh! and i'll decide your life for you. POWER TO ME.

Anyways, back to entrapment. Anyone who doesn't know about Adrian Yeo should be whipped and then hung. LOL, okay not really, but seriously, it's old news and it was all over the papers.

Technically what they did to the poor guy is a bit of a LONG CON. If you don't know what that is, a) you don't watch Lost, b) you don't watch Hustle, c) you need to find out. But a short description is a long confidence trick/scam/whatevers. You offer someone something they don't need and appeal to one of their weaknesses, be it their greed or anything else. But when the police use such means to apprehend individuals, they're taking the law into their own hands.

Just as surely as New Jersey is known as the Garden State, Singapore is a POLICE state. If they can get away with this, in time, what else will the people let them get away with? There's this latin quote somewhere, for the life of me I forgot, but it basically means who will police the police? The government pretty much runs every aspect of our lives by now. Of course it means a safer country and low crime rates, but it also means lesser freedom.

Thomas Hobbe's contract theory stated that people ceded their rights to a consolidated power in exchange for protection and a functional society. This begs the question, if so, how much rights of our rights are we as Singaporeans willing to exchange to live in this environment?

The PAP continues to reinvent themselves in order to stay ahead, and their effort is indeed commendable. IMO, MM Lee is a conservative, and long as he remains in power, there won't be many social changes. And it's in my opinion that for the aware youth of today, social changes are of the utmost importance.

By aware youths, I mean people who think for themselves and not simply going with the flow and all adore the WP cause it's what is hip right now :/

I'd really love to know more opinions about this, but it always seems that no one's really interested in talking about such stuff. if someone were to make an intelligent, well-balanced comment to this entry i'd be like, in awe. LOL
